Bass Fishing Tips

Boat Dock Tips

Many people fish boats by flipping or pitching a Texas rigged worm very tight to the posts and that often works very well. Sometimes bass are suspended and do not bite these bottom bouncing lures. The bass may be very tight to the cover but will not go down to the lure. When this happens, try these ideas.

  1. Rig Soft Jerk weedless and cast, flip or pitch it under the dock tight to the posts. Get it way back under the dock. Twitch it or softly jerk it. Let it sink as bass often hit when it stops and is sinking.
  2. Work lures with treble hooks just deep enough so they disappear but keep them just outside the posts. Get them close. Use an erratic retrieve like you can get with Jerk Flash or Jerk Flash Junior.
  3. Use your Flash Runner Spinner bait just outside the posts. As it goes by a post, kill it and let it sink a little. Bass often hit as it sinks. Also pitch your Flash Runner Spinner bait under the dock as far back as you can get it. Try different running depths.
  4. Check for brush piles outside the dock. Many docks with lights or rod holders also have great brush piles. These often hold more bass than the dock.
  5. Work different depths. Check both the shallow posts and the deep ones until you find a pattern.
