Bass Fishing Tips

Plastic Worm & Lizard Styles and Colors

There are so many soft plastic worms and lizards available, this make help make sense out of the confusion.

  1. Rib worms or rib lizards hold scent better and give off more scent than smooth lures. The ribs provide more surface area for scent to escape into the water. Many small ribs is more effective than a few large ribs since many small ribs have more surface area. Ribs also give more vibration and feel very soft to the fish.
  2. Use dark colors or brighter colors in low light and stained water since bass can see them better.
  3. Use more natural colors in clear water.
  4. In deep water the light level is lower so dark colors may show up better.
  5. No one knows why bass fishing can be so good using do nothing lures like fries, but it can be very good.
  6. In order for bass to bite your lure, it must first find it. Plastic worms or lizards that move water like rib worms or worms with big action tails make it easier for bass to find your lure.
  7. If you believe that scents are good, add some more to your lure when your hook it on. Most plastic worms with scents really allow very little to get into the water. If you like scents, add more. Rib worms hold more scent and give off more scent than smooth worms.
  8. Use a plastic with a soft, thick body. It will protect your hook from shags yet not bother hook sets.
